Collection, 1981-2000.

This collection contains information related to a survey of the women chemists awarded the Garvan Medal from 1937 to 1983. The survey was conducted by Molly Gleiser, and the project was overseen by the California Section of the American Chemical Society. The collection contains an article, "The Garvan Women," and an analysis of the survey by Molly Gleiser, as well as photocopies of survey data sheets on the Garvan Medalists from 1937 to 1983. The information collected includes general opinions from both men and women chemists about the Garvan Medal. The indivdual survey sheets include information on the medalist's family background, education, whether they experienced discrimination, the effect that winning the Garvan Medal had on them, and what advice they would give to young women scientists. Information on deceased medalists was obtained from relatives, former colleagues, and employers. The collection also includes general information and correspondence related to the project, preliminary survey analysis tables, and programs for the 1999 and 2000 Garvan-Olin Medal presentations.
